Playing Guitar Hero is Fun

Posted by admin on 8th June 2009 in Becoming A Master of Guitar Hero

Guitar Hero has quickly become one of the hottest games on the gaming market. There is good reason for this: it allows people to take part in one of their favorite fantasies. They can step right in the shoes of their favorite rock guitar legend and play in front of imaginary huge crowds. Best of all, they do not have to be a virtuoso guitar player in order to do this.

However, they do need to get the hang of the Guitar Hero game. Unfortunately, some have a tougher time of it than others. This leads them to proclaim that "Guitar Hero sucks". No, it most assuredly does not suck. You just need to take the right steps to develop a little proficiency with the game.

And, yes, these steps can take a little time. Anytime you purchase a new game you have to learn some new tricks. This can be a little tough for those who may not be used to the new game. Guitar Hero can even more difficult in this regard because of the inclusion of a simulated guitar. For those that have never picked up a guitar before this can be doubly difficult. However, do not confuse the difficulty of a new experience with notion that something is wrong with the game. If you are having a little trouble with Guitar Hero, here are a few tips that can help you improve your game play.

For some individuals the game Guitar Hero "sucks" because they are not any good at it. Often, they are not any good at it because they have ridiculously high standards for themselves. They assume all they need to do is pick up the guitar and start playing like a pro. Well, it usually doesn’t work like that as human beings are prone to making mistakes. If you make a few mistakes when you start and you sound more like a villain than a hero, don’t worry about it! Sure, you will trip over yourself when you start playing. This is not a crime! Simply be fair to yourself and allow enough time to work out your trouble spots and mistakes.

Try to play when you really feel like playing. This is known as playing when you are in the proverbial mood. You do not want to force yourself to play a game when you are not up to it because this will take a lot of joy out of the experience. Of course, this may lead to wonder how you can stay motivated. Here’s a tip: don’t pack the guitar away. Leave it in plain sight so that it never becomes falls into the "out of sight out of mind" category.

Always look at the positive benefits associated with playing Guitar Hero. Now, some will say what can be so positive about playing a video game. Well, have they ever thought about how Guitar Hero can increase a person’s appreciation for music? Or how it can increase critical analysis skills? Yes, there are many huge positives to Guitar Hero. You just need to delve a little further to find them.

As the old saying goes, people are your best resource. That means it may be helpful to jam with other Guitar Hero aficionados. You may discover new tips and tricks that you didn’t know. Guitar Hero is not a strategy game centering on a definitive win or lose scenario. Guitar Hero is much like playing an actual guitar in the sense it is an art form. As such, you will need many different perspectives in order to develop the insight needed to be a true champion of the game.

Of course, in order to do this you need to avoid the know-it-all attitude. People who possess such an attitude never learn and never grow. However, ego comes into play and they are unwilling to learn or try new things. Don’t fall into this trap. It will be your undoing. When this is the case, Guitar Hero really will suck.

Practice, practice, and more practice is always the key. You can only get better at something you do often. This is true of developing your talents with Guitar Hero and pretty much anything else.

Play by yourself a little. This means when you are alone in a room with no distractions, play the game, and listen for the little nuances. Yes, it is helpful to have the feedback of others but you also need a little introspection as well. And when you do play, play with passion. This will bring out the inner "axe slinger" in you more than anything else.

No, Guitar Hero doesn’t suck and your game playing should never be anything other than enjoyable. Simply follow these tips and you will find your game play improving dramatically. That is a guarantee!

Guitar Hero History

Posted by admin on 5th June 2009 in Becoming A Master of Guitar Hero

The Year was 2005, and the world was about to be taken by storm by a video game unlike any other. We are talking of course about the one the only Guitar Hero for PS2. This incredible game was the first to take full advantage of a modular controller developed to mimic a Musical instrument and people loved it. Since 2005, the company that was once Harmonix was bought out by MTV Networks and would ultimately be responsible for the release of the Rock Band platform after relinquishing the Guitar Hero label to Activision.

Between the two platforms the viability of premium music downloads for video game platforms has become a reality. Since the launch of online support services across the leading platforms over 20 million tracks have been downloaded. Pair that with the increase in sales artists themselves have seen as a result of having their tracks in the game and the impact to the business of music has been unparalleled by any other musical innovation to date (even the distortion pedal!) It should also be noted that artists make more per track selling their downloads through than Guitar Hero than through iTunes.

As a whole, the series has released a total of 13 games and as of October 9, 2008, the series has sold 23 million units and earned US$1.6 billion at retail. The release of Guitar Hero 3 in North American raked in over $115 million in sales for Activision making it the biggest sales week in the history of the company and paralleling the big screen openings of movie like Iron Man, Spider Man 2 and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Unfortunately, as one would imagine those that aren’t cashing in on the deal are quick to hire lawyers and point fingers. None have been so active in their litigation as legendary guitar maker Gibson. They have filed multiple suits in 2008 against not only Activision for using Gibson guitar likenesses but also the world’s largest retailers (Wal-Mart, Amazon.com and a few others) for selling and distributing the games. They have also taken the extra step of going after MTV Networks stating the Rock Band is infringing upon them. In the past year, they have seen little success with any of their suits and they will likely be long and drawn out.

As gamers, we have been very fortunate that these types of suits have not been more prevalent between recording artists, music labels, managers and others in the music industry. Instead, we get to rock out to our favorite Guitar Hero games and with any luck we will have many more years of gaming to come.

Can Wii Guitar Hero Be Family Fun?

Posted by admin on 5th June 2009 in Becoming A Master of Guitar Hero

Guitar Hero Wii Can Be Family Fun!

As a parent to young son I am becoming more and more concerned about what he is exposed to as he grows. We don’t watch a lot of TV and try to spend as much time as we can playing and doing creative things like drawing and making things with paper with him. The irony is I am concerned about things I know myself I enjoy or once enjoyed in my life - manly music, movies and computer games. I still love music and movies. I am not huge fan of computer games now.

We encourage our son to sing songs, listen to music and take an interest in music instruments. As for movies, we occasionally take him to see popular children’s movies. My son is half Japanese and speaks Japanese so we allow him to watch Japanese anime and TV shows on Youtube. When comes to computer games I have never liked the idea of him playing them at all….until Wii Guitar came along.

I was once a big role playing and 3D shooter game fan in my teens and early twenties. I rarely play these games now and am quite surprised at the level and amount of graphic violence these games now have. Of course my son has never been exposed to these sorts of games. I have never been a big fan of hand held games. However, while we were living in Japan he did learn discover and experience Nintendo DS.

I made the mistake of buying my wife a DS last year. Eventually it would find it’s way into my sons hands. We first tried to reward him with a little DS game play here and there. In the end he become DS addicted wanting to play the game all the time. We got rid of it. The idea of having any sort of game in the house didn’t appeal to me at all over that experience.

When game makers started coming out with games that allowed user to simulate playing guitar I first I dismissed them as toys for teenagers who were either having trouble growing up or too lazy to learn guitar. One day at a friends house we played Wii Guitar Hero for a few hours. We were hooked. We got the Wii console for Xmas and have been playing Wii guitar heroes ever since on weekends and during school holidays.

Wii guitar is great fun for the family. Although it is a computer game, and not the real thing, it is very interactive and great for growing bodies. You can swing the game’s controller in time with music to mimic the motions they’d make to strum a guitar. My son is picking up some of the basics, such as rhythm, tempo and song structure. He also seems to be more interested in music. I bought him his first real guitar recently.

The best thing about Wii guitar is it can be enjoyed by the whole family and creates a lot of social interaction. In fact, the whole family can turn into a rock band and tour the world. In fact, it is the best fun we have as a family and we all look forward to the weekends.

Learn to play guitar through Guitar Hero

Posted by admin on 5th June 2009 in Becoming A Master of Guitar Hero

play guitar through Guitar HeroIn North Carolina a teenager has officially dropped out of school to become a professional Guitar Hero player. Not an actual guitar player but a Guitar Hero player. In case you have been frozen in ice, or trapped in a fall out bunker or any other generic Brendan Fraser style plot for the last 50 years and you do not know what Guitar Hero is then I will endeavour to unveil the cultural phenomenon that has been sweeping the world.

Guitar Hero is a game that simulates playing the guitar by having a plastic model of a guitar as a controller. The game itself is a series of songs which are represented by what they call a Musical Staff modelled on the neck of a guitar down which fly different coloured blobs which hit a line and explode indicating that the player must hit the corresponding colour on the Fisher Price style plastic guitar. The art is to flick the strumming button at the same time as the coloured buttons are activated, in synchronisation with the coloured blobs on television.

This is all done to an array of classic guitar tracks and although I have massively oversimplified it, as it is quite difficult, that is literally all there is to do. The simplicity might go some way to explain the massive popularity of the game which has created a sub culture consisting of young and old, crossing the class boundaries and uniting want-to-be musicians in their rock and roll simulating fantasies. The burning question is, can this lead to actual guitar playing ability?

play guitar through Guitar HeroThe answer is a definitive no from basically anybody who has any musical ability or knowledge, however there are some diehard guitar hero loyalists who insist that their abilities are transferable. Looking into the concept a bit further and we can see that there are some skills that could potentially be transferable. The act of site reading in music is similar to that when playing guitar hero, as you need to see a certain symbol and transfer it into a movement.

The art of reading ahead in music is a valuable on and this is also important when playing guitar hero however this is generally where the similarities end. What people forget is that as opposed to six coloured buttons there would need to be approximately 140 for it to naturally replicate a real guitar and in real musical sight reading, the years of theory that it took to get to that position are squeezed into a couple of hours of intensive practice on Guitar Hero.

All being said there must be something in the cultural phenomenon, even if it is just people with no musical ability living out their repressed ambitions of rock stardom. The global obsession has gone so far that there are actually professional Guitar Hero players! This is absolutely astonishing and as previously mentioned there is a young man in North Carolina that is 16 and has just quit school, with his parents consent to pursue his dream of becoming a professional Guitar Hero player. The saga continues.

Guitar Hero III World Tour

Posted by admin on 5th June 2009 in Becoming A Master of Guitar Hero

guitar hero world tour

Guitar Hero has become a cultural phenomenon in the world of computer video games. The guitar, software, and accessories are availabe in all gaming platforms including Wii, Playstation, Xbox, etc. Guitar Hero is a series of music video games published by RedOctane, in partnership with Activision. The series is notable for its use of a plastic guitar peripheral to simulate the playing of music, represented on-screen by colored notes that correspond to fret buttons on the controller.

Heidi Klum Guitar Hero

Their has recently been a controversial advertisement with model Heidi Klum playing Guitar Hero in her undergarments! The games support individual play as well as cooperative and competitive modes for two players. The series has used a range of both licensed and independent rock music tracks from the 1960s, throughout the decades to the present, including many master tracks from the bands. In total, six games have been released for video game consoles. Games have also been released for mobile phones and the Nintendo DS handheld gaming system.

History

The series was originally developed by Harmonix Music Systems from 2005 to 2007. Then development duties of the series were transferred to Neversoft, whose first effort, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock was released on October 28, 2007 in North America.

The Guitar Hero franchise has become a cultural phenomenon, making many appearances in popular culture, and the games have become extremely popular as party games and hobbies. The series has sold 23 million units, earning $1.6 billion in retail sales.

Guitar Controller

Guitar Hero is unusual because it comes packaged with a controller peripheral modeled after a black Gibson SG guitar. Rather than a typical gamepad. This guitar controller is the primary input for the game. Playing the game with the guitar controller simulates playing an actual guitar, except it uses five colored "fret buttons" and a "strum bar" instead of frets and strings. The development of Guitar Hero was inspired by Konami’s GuitarFreaks arcade game, which at the time, had not seen much exposure in the North American market; RedOctane, already selling guitar-shaped controllers for imported copies of GuitarFreaks, approached Harmonix about creating a game to use an entirely new Guitar controller.

The concept was to have the gameplay of Amplitude with the visuals of Karaoke Revolution, both of which had been developed by Harmonix. The game was met with critical acclaim and received numerous awards for its innovative guitar peripheral and its soundtrack, which comprised 47 playable rock songs (most of which were cover versions of popular songs from artists and bands from the 1960s through modern rock). Guitar Hero has sold nearly 1.5 million copies to date.

Guitar Hero II Release

The popularity of the series increased dramatically with the release of Guitar Hero II for the PlayStation 2 in 2006. Featuring improved multiplayer gameplay, an improved note-recognizing system, and 64 songs, it became the fifth best-selling video game of 2006. The PlayStation 2 version of the game was offered both separately and in a bundle with a cherry red Gibson SG guitar controller. Guitar Hero II was later released for the Xbox 360 in April 2007 with an exclusive Gibson X-Plorer guitar controller and an additional 10 songs, among other features. About 3 million units of Guitar Hero II have sold on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360.

The final game in the Guitar Hero series to be developed by Harmonix was Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s for the PlayStation 2, which was released in July 2007. This final game version, changing the visuals from Guita 1ff8 r Hero II, and shortening the song list with no bonus songs was not as well received by reviewers.

Transition

Transition Both RedOctane and Harmonix were experiencing changes in 2006. RedOctane was bought by Activision in June while it was announced in September that Harmonix would be purchased by MTV Networks. As a result of the two purchases, Harmonix would no longer develop future games in the Guitar Hero series. Instead, developing would go to Neversoft, a subsidiary of Activision known for developing the Tony Hawk’s series of skateboarding games.

Neversoft

Neversoft was chosen to helm the Guitar Hero series after Neversoft founder, Joel Jewett, admitted to the RedOctane founders, Kai and Charles Huang, that his development team for Tony Hawk’s Project 8 went to work on weekends just to play Guitar Hero. In 2007, Harmonix and MTV Games released a new music title through rival publisher Electronic Arts, called Rock Band. It expanded upon the gameplay popularized by the Guitar Hero series by adding drum and microphone instruments, allowing players to simulate playing songs as bands, though this functionality has now been implemented in Guitar Hero World Tour.

Guitar Hero III:

Legends of Rock was released in late 2007 for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PC, and Mac platforms. The title is the first installment of the series to include wireless guitars bundled with the game and also the first to release a special bundle with two guitars. The game includes Slash and Tom Morello as playable characters in addition to the existing fictional avatars; both guitarists performed motion capture to be used for their characters animation in the game.

Guitar Hero III World Tour (aka Guitar Hero IV)

Guitar Hero World Tour, previously named Guitar Hero IV, is the fourth full game in the series and was released on October 26, 2008 for PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii. Analysts had expected that future Guitar Hero games in 2008 would include additional instrument peripherals to compete against Rock Band. Guitar Hero World Tour was confirmed as in development following the announcement of the merger between Activision and Vivendi Games in December 2007. Activision’s CEO Bobby Kotick announced on April 21, 2008 that Guitar Hero World Tour will branch out into other instruments including vocals. Guitar Hero World Tour includes drums and is packaged with a new drum set controller. A larger number of real-world musicians appear as playable characters, including the great Jimi Hendrix, Billy Corgan, Sting, and Ozzy Osbourne. Guitar Hero World Tour also features the creation of custom songs that can be shared with others.

On September 4, 2007, Billboard announced that the band Aerosmith was "working closely with the makers of Guitar Hero IV, which will be dedicated to the group’s music." On February 15, 2008, Activision announced that Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, an expansion game to the series, would be released on June 29, 2008.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is developed by Neversoft for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, while the Wii version of the game is developed by Vicarious Visions and the PlayStation 2 version is developed by Budcat Creations. The game features a track selection composed of 60% of Aerosmith songs, with other songs from Joe Perry’s solo work or artists that have inspired or performed with Aerosmith, including Run D.M.C. Also in the works: Activision’s 2008 SEC filings cited that they plan to release Guitar Hero: Metallica by the first quarter of 2009.

By all expectations Guitar Hero will once again be the number one selling computer video game of the year in 2008. The Guitar Hero phenomenon lives on!

Guitar Hero Review

guitar hero

Guitar Hero is a great music video game. The game is developed by Harmonix Music Systems, and it is published by RedOctane. The primary controller is designed to simulate the playing of electric guitar. Guitar hero was first released in North America on November 8, 2005. Then it was released in Europe on April 7, 2006.

The player must press the corresponding button according to the scrolling notes of a song. The player can also use the ‘Dualshock System’ by pressing X, L1, L2, R1, and R2. The player will earn points for every note hit. Chords have twice the value of single notes. When the player hit ten consecutive notes, chords will count as one note. The player can temporarily double the score by using the Star Power. Using the Star Power effectively, the player can multiply his points up to eight times.

Player score are shown at the end of the song. The player can also view his longest note streak and accuracy percentage. Guitar Song is quite a complex game. The average song can usually have about 400 - 600 notes. The difficult song can contain up to 1000 - 2000 notes.

Guitar Hero has over forty seven songs. Thirty of these songs are from the covers of the originals. The player can choose to be eight playable characters in Guitar hero. Six of them can be played from the beginning of the game. The rest of the characters must be unlocked as secret characters. Each characters have their own unique personalities and playing style.

Are Guitar Hero Video Games Good?

Posted by admin on 2nd June 2009 in Becoming A Master of Guitar Hero

video games

What could be better than living the life of a rock star? Who cares if your fans are all in your living room, you are the man, or woman! Into the world of video games has come the latest interactive games. Guitar hero takes you from the role of interested observer to full rock and roll participant. In other video games, you have a controller and varying views that draw you into game play but with the new invention of the guitar controller, you will get a fullfilling experience tough to find in any other games.

Guitar Hero has been released with many different games so far for a plethora of platforms. It was made available for Playstation 2 & 3, Xbox 360, and PC and even more recently for the Nintendo DS. With the exception of the DS, game play and peripherals have been much the same on all platforms. Of course, due to the size of the DS a full size guitar controller was not practical so the creators came up with a guitar grip that plugs into the second slot of the console. One big difference between platforms is that Guitar Hero 3 could be played online with the Xbox 360 console only.
Overall, the impact of this game has been phenomenal no matter which console it is played on. Game play includes different levels of difficulty, tour and arcade mode, cooperative play as well as competitive.

Guitar Hero was challenged last year with the release of Rock Band, a similar game idea but one that incorporated the whole band. You could play guitar, bass, drums or sing with Harmonix answer to Guitar Hero. The challenge would be short lived, as the equipment did not quite measure up.

video gamesSoon, RedOctane and Activision will follow up this challenge with Guitar Hero World Tour. Kids and parents have been waiting with baited breath for the latest release in the Guitar Hero games. The play promises to be intense as drums and vocals are added. Another positive is that though the new guitar is awesome you don’t have to purchase it to play. If you have the previous version of the game, the guitar will be compatible.

They have also announced that for Xbox 360 the Rock Band instruments can also work. Unfortunately this is not the case for Playstation 3, though Sony says they are working on making the units compatible.

Guitar Hero World Tour may well be on the Christmas list of all little girls and boys. If past performance is any indication to go by, in 2008 Activision released that their total sales from the Guitar Hero franchise had exceeded one billion dollars. This craze has led some bar and grills to have a Guitar Hero night instead of karaoke. One in New York reported that their business triples on those nights.

It is obvious that Guitar Hero has just begun to make an impact on the kids that play and sounds like their parents as well. A terrific idea that has so far been perfectly executed. Look for the new release soon and expect that all the kids are going to want one.
